family ties

sometimes, when you have the window open, a fly or a bug or a gnat will come into your study.  it won’t want to be in your study, of course, so it will fly around and around the room, trying to make it outside, towards the light.  eventually it will attach itself to your computer monitor, and will flit over the words and images on the screen, lighting on a p or a d or an f.  it will be indiscriminate.

if you take your mouse and put your cursor underneath the bug on your screen, and move the cursor around the bug in circles, over and over, faster and faster, the bug will do one of two things:

1) it will follow the cursor to the best of its ability, spinning along as fast as it can.  if you keep moving the cursor quickly enough, it will be unable to follow, and will end up convulsing, aimlessly, on the screen.

2) it will try to get away from the cursor to the best of its ability.  if you keep following it quickly enough, it will be unable to get away, and will end up convulsing, aimlessly, on the screen.
