right now it’s twenty-nine degrees outside. in houston, unseasonably cold weather such as this separates the natives from the out-of-towners like white from yolk. walking through campus from class to car today, i could easily pick out those who were not from around here by the fact that they walked briskly along in scarves and hats and gloves, as opposed to the houstonians who hunched around in sweatshirts, bitching. we’re in general not at all prepared for the cold, obviously. it’s funny, when it was this cold in boston i had a hat and scarf and gloves and a wool coat, but today i wore a corduroy jacket, and i couldn’t feel my hands by the time i reached the parking lot.
