   dear kari patch,
   guess what? i just bought the first four seasons of the x-files on dvd! come over next week and we can watch them together! it won’t be nearly as much fun without you.

maybe she’d deserve the nobel prize for “getting kids to quit watching tv and read a goddamned book once in awhile,” were there one. but for literature? i think it’s a stretch.
